The Monastery, Petra, JordanWe took this photo while relaxing at a cave across the Monastery. It was our favorite ruin in Petra not only because it was amazingly spectacular but also because it was quiet and we had it pretty much to ourselves. Most people who visit Petra don’t even try to see the Monastery because it requires climbing 800 steps of stairs and some steep slopes to reach it, which is sad because the climb is really worth it

Please check back for our photojournal of Petra.

Hi Aleah, thanks! Definitely put it on top of your list. We truly loved Petra and the rest of Jordan. The inside of most of the buildings are empty although some contain interesting architectural detail. They were looted a long time ago and whatever worthy items were left were placed in a museum. The inside of some of the major buildings were closed off.

Thanks AC. We were happy to discover the cave, which gave us an interesting vantage point from there.

Hi Shalu, thanks! You’re right, Jordan is an incredible place to visit. It has a lot of spectacular historical and natural sites. And you’re right, Petra is very rocky! And it really rocks!!:)

Amazing pic! Is it that the same ruin that was featured in Indiana Jones?

Hi Dani, thanks! No, it’s not the same one. The one in the movie is the most famous amoung the Petra ruins – the Treasury. It looks similar to Monastery but it’s taller and a lot more embellished.
